Hello Playmakers! PGA DFS Golf is back with the PGA Tour’s 2021 Palmetto Championship at Congaree this weekend. DPA Staff Colin Lynch here and excited to bring you my breakdown of this event!
The tournament features a 156 player field consisting of PGA Tour regulars. These players will tee off against one another starting Thursday 7:00AM EDT at Congaree Golf Club located in Ridgeland, South Carolina. The course will play as a par 71 measuring over 7,600 yards and will feature Bermuda greens. The Top 65 and tied will make the cut for the weekend after the completion of 36 holes.
Top Tier Targets
Tyrrell Hatton ($10,200)
Hatton is coming off back to back Top 40 finishes on tour (38th, 39th) and he has finished Top 40 or better in six of his last seven events. Tyrrell has quietly made nine of his last ten cuts and he’s a golfer that tends to play well in non major events. Hatton has a great track record on Bermuda courses and he ranks Top 5 in the field (last 50 rounds) in total strokes gained, strokes gained tee to green, and strokes gained on approach. He also ranks Top 10 in strokes gained off the tee.
Sungjae Im ($9,700)
Sungjae is coming off back to back missed cuts (on the number) and I love the bounce back spot he’s in this week at low ownership. Im is a Bermuda specialist that ranks first in the field in strokes gained off the tee. He’s a golfer I always like to target on Bermuda tracks. Sungjae is one of the best total drivers of the ball on tour and he’s one of the better putters on Bermuda in the field. Im also ranks Top 5 in the field in bogey avoidance and Top 10 in strokes gained putting.
Middle Tier Targets
Lucas Glover ($8,600)
Glover is one of two 8K range golfers to rank in the Top 25% of every major statistical category (with the exception of putting). He has quietly made nine of his last ten starts on tour, including two Top 10’s in his last six starts. Glover was born in South Carolina and he’s familiar with the course. He loves Bermuda greens and he ranks Top 10 in the field in bogey avoidance and strokes gained around the green. He also ranks Top 15 in strokes gained off the tee and Top 25 in strokes gained on approach.
Harold Varner ($8,500)
Varner is the other 8K range golfer in this field with elite stats and recent form. He’s familiar with area and played collegiate golf at East Carolina University. Varner has quietly made eight of his last ten cuts on tour, highlighted by a 2nd place finish at The RBC Heritage. He ranks Top 15 in the field (last 50 rounds) in strokes gained off the tee and strokes gained on approach. Varner also ranks Top 10 in strokes gained tee to green, strokes gained around the green, and bogey avoidance.
Matthew NeSmith ($7,800)
NeSmith is a South Carolina native that ranks number one in the field in strokes gained on approach and greens in regulation. He’s quietly gained strokes on approach in eleven of his last thirteen starts on tour. His form has been a bit shaky coming off back to back missed cuts, but the potential upside at his ownership and price point is something I plan to be overweight on in GPP’s.
Pat Perez ($7,700)
Perez comes into The Palmetto Championship in solid recent form. He’s made eight of his last ten starts on tour, including four straight Top 45 finishes (45th, 39th, 26th, 29th). Perez also gained strokes on approach in all four consecutive events. Perez is a golfer that loves playing on Bermuda and he ranks Top 10 in the field in strokes gained around the green.
Value Tier Targets
Roger Sloan ($7,000)
Sloan has posted Top 35 finishes in four of his last seven events on tour and he’s quietly made seven of his last ten cuts. Sloan is coming off a 34th place finish at The AT&T Byron Nelson and between the months of Februrary and March, he had three straight Top 25 finishes in a row. Sloan ranks Top 30 or better in the field (last 50 rounds) in strokes gained tee to green, strokes gained on approach, birdie or better percentage, greens in regulation, and DK scoring.
Hank Leboida ($6,900)
Leboida enters The Palmetto Championship in strong recent form, highlighted by three straight made cuts and two Top 20 finishes. Leboida ranks Top 25 in the field (last 50 rounds) in total strokes gained and also ranks Top 10 in strokes gained on approach. Hank is a great salary saver and he’s my favorite golfer priced below 7K on the slate.
Dustin Johnson ($11,400)
Matt Fitzpatrick ($10,400)
Brandt Snedeker ($8,400)
Rafa Cabrera Bello ($7,800)
Vincent Whaley ($7,700)
J.T. Poston ($7,600)
Brice Garnett ($7,000)
Andrew Putnam ($6,900)
Chase Seiffert ($6,500)
Bryson Nimmer ($6,300)
