Tonight’s NHL Main slate consists of 12 games. Only three of these games feature teams that are at least a -185 favorite: San Jose, Winnipeg, and Philadelphia. Six of these games have an over/under of at least 6: Toronto vs. New Jersey, NY Rangers vs. NY Islanders, Carolina vs. Philadelphia, Boston vs. Florida, Calgary vs. Winnipeg, and Vegas vs. Edmonton. It’s coming down to the end of the season, just a few games left. Many teams are sitting players, or giving other players more time. Now, more than ever, it is important to follow your lineup right up to puck drop to make sure they are playing. I’ve narrowed down a strong pool of #playmakers to consider when building your FanDuel lineups tonight. Let’s head into the weekend with a little extra cash in our pockets!

Center

John Tavares | NY Islanders | $8,300

Trying to figure out what will happen in games in this final week of the season gets pretty difficult, as there are varying degrees of motivation from team to team. The Islanders are playing in their final home game of the season. Also, this could very well be star captain, John Tavares’ last home game for the Islanders. The Rangers have Pavelec in goal tonight, who is sporting an underwhelming 4-8-1 record with a 3.12 GAA. Will Tavares step it up one last time for the home crowd? We think JT is poised to score – as this contest holds the highest O/U on the slate at 6.5. Keep an eye on the rest of NYI first line as well, as wingers Anders Lee ($6,300) and Josh Bailey ($5,800) could be the beneficiaries of a strong game from Tavares. On the contrary, the Rangers are projected to score goals as well. The Islanders are the team with the worst penalty kill percentage in the NHL. It should be a goal fest in the big apple, so you may want to consider a game stack here.

John Tavares could be playing his home final game as an Islander tonight

Wing

Kyle Connor | Winnipeg Jets | $5,200

It wasn’t long ago that Connor was my value play for less than $4,000. He was a guy I could rely on for cheap, and just be satisfied with 8-10 points from him to round out my roster. With just a few games left in the season, Connor now has 30 goals, and has been Winnipeg’s top scorer over the last 10 games. He won’t have Blake Wheeler alongside him tonight, but that could also translate to extra shots for both him and Jets young stud Patrick Laine. Regardless, this game looks good for Winnipeg, as they are the largest favorites on the slate (-220) at home against Calgary.

With Blake Wheeler sitting, we can expect more opportunities to come from Kyle Connor tonight

Defense

Charlie McAvoy | Boston Bruins | $4,400

Going with my value pick here on defense. McAvoy is coming off an injury, and will be looking to get back in his groove before the team gets to the playoffs. Florida is in a must-win situation to make the playoffs. Boston is in a tie with Tampa Bay, but have one game in hand.  Both teams should be giving it their all tonight. McAvoy continuously sees plenty of minutes, including a team lead of over 21 minutes in his first game back since returning from injury. The Bruins rookie is an asset on the powerplay, and can accrue points in a variety of different ways. At just $4,400, Charlie Mac is a no-brainer for me.

McAvoy logged over 20 minutes in his first game back with the Bruins on Tuesday

Goalie

Connor Hellebuyck | Winnipeg Jets | $8,400

Picking a goalie on a day where half the teams aren’t playing for anything really made this a tough decision. Tonight, I think the only way to go, is to play it safe with Hellebuyck. The Jets netminder has a favorable home matchup vs Calgary tonight, in a game that the Flames have nothing to play for. The Jets still have a chance to overtake Nashville in the central division. By going with Hellebuyck, we avoid overpaying for a goalie, but still have a great chance to tally a win by picking the team with the best odds on the slate.

Connor Hellebuyck leads the playoff bound Jets with a 42-11-9 record, 2.40 GAA and a .922 Save %
