  • Overall Record: 469-408-18
  • Season Record: 33-21-2

Delaware vs UMBC, Over 141

  • Maryland Baltimore County is averaging 78 points per game to start the season. They have had no trouble scoring against lower-level competition and think they breeze past 70 points again here today. This is Delaware’s first game of the season against a Division I opponent
  • While Delaware is a good team offensively, they seem to have issues on the defensive end. Against a Salem team in the FCS, they allowed 76 points in what would be just a three-point victory for the Blue Hens. Hopefully, they can keep things a bit closer here today
  • This UMBC team is experienced enough to score on the offensive end, but a bit too small to defend well on the other side of the court. Point guard Darnell Rogers is just 5’2 and I view him as a major defensive liability. Him playing close to 30 minutes per game makes it very difficult for UMBC to limit opponents’ scoring

Miami +2 vs Purdue

  • I like Miami to win this game but will happily take them plus points in this spot. It is a bit surprising to me that the odds currently sit where they do. Miami has been excellent to start the season but face their first real test here today. I think Jim Larranaga has his squad ready
  • Purdue had a close game against Valparaiso last week and suffered their first loss of the season the week prior. They are not getting the guard play that they were expecting, particularly after the injury to freshman Jaden Ivey. I do not think they can keep up with Chris Lykes and company today
  • Miami may be one of the few teams in the country well suited to defend Trevion Williams. 7’0 seniors Nysier Brooks and Rodney Miller should really lock down the paint in this game and work to contain the lethal Purdue scorer. Not to mention the start of this season has been his least offensively proficient yet

Colorado +5.5 at Tennessee

  • This is certainly a good Tennessee team but not one I am comfortable backing in their first game of the season. Yves Pons and John Fulkerson will still lead the charge for the Vols but they are going to have several underclassmen playing key minutes too, at least in the early going
  • McKinley Wright has scored at least 20 points in both games so far this season. Colorado has been humming with him back for his fourth season at point guard and after clawing back against Kansas State, I am ready to buy into this team. No one circles the wagons like the Colorado buffaloes
  • While everyone likes to talk about how well rounded this Tennessee team is, you can say the same about Colorado. They have size, experience, a deep bench and function well on both the offensive and defensive side of the ball. If they do not out grit Tennessee today, they will at the very least outlast them

Northern Kentucky +12 at Dayton

  • Dayton is 1-1 to start the season with both games being decided by a total of four points. Playing such close games makes me really doubt they can cover this many points against Northern Kentucky. Dayton has yet to top 70 points while Northern Kentucky has in all three games
  • The Norse are also known to keep things close against Quadrant I opponents, losing by an average of just nine points in their past six meetings. This is especially pertinent as without a packed arena, having home court is far less advantageous as it should be for the Flyers
  • My other big issue with Dayton is their lack of depth. Only six players have been on the court for over 15 percent of the team’s possessions. They start a group of all upperclassmen, but that does not mean much when Northern Kentucky will have fresh legs on the floor all game long

Iowa -3 vs North Carolina

  • This bet is simply based on the fact that North Carolina probably won’t hang with Iowa’s scoring. They are averaging under 73 points per game while the Hawkeyes average nearly 100. Level of competition clearly means something, but Iowa should continue their onslaught even against Top 25 opponents
  • A pass first guy like Jordan Bohannon should be able to pick apart these freshman Tarheel guards. Not to mention of course Luka Garza who is drawing double teams in the paint already this season. There are just too many weapons on Iowa. The Tarheels cannot contain them
  • The shooting of Iowa is extremely precise making them such a tough opponent. They are 39 percent from beyond the arc this season and nearly 58 percent inside of the paint. Compare that to North Carolina who is an abysmal 27 percent from three-point range

Illinois +3.5 at Duke

  • I will take Illinois on the bounce back here. It was clear to me that a team as defensively sound as Baylor would give them some trouble but facing Duke will yield a much more competitive game. Kofi Cockburn and Ayo Dosunmu should go to work here against a more inexperienced squad
  • Duke has similarly dropped a game early in the season, also to a National Title contender in Michigan State. Mike Krzyzewski has yet to get his squad playing together and I do not trust them to cover any point spread until they have proven capable of doing so
  • Not only do people love to wake up and bet Duke, but they love the Blue Devils at home. Again though, having home court is far less advantageous as it should be for this season. These freshman are playing with a lot less vigor as no Cameron Crazies are there to cheer them on

Let’s win today Playmakers! I am confident in every pick that I provide and play them myself. College basketball is unpredictable and that’s why we love it, so always bet smart!
