Monday Night Football – Ravens at Raiders Showdown – NFL DFS

36

Happy Week 1 Playmakers! @AlexKrallDFS here to talk Showdown with you ahead of our first edition of Monday Night Football between the visiting Baltimore Ravens and the host Las Vegas Raiders. In this article, you can expect a break down of my favorite Captain and FLEX plays, along with a set of Tiered preferred plays that you can start to build out your roster with at the bottom of the article.

This game features a Baltimore side absolutely decimated by injuries of late, with all three of the top RBs on their depth chart being severely injured during the preseason, which in turn catapults no name players like UDFA Ty’Son Williams into a starting role. Vegas will be at Allegiant Stadium on the Las Vegas strip for this game, and I’m expecting it to be a rowdy environment for the Ravens to have to start their season in. This game already has a 50.5 point total, so the oddsmakers have made their statement that they expect this matchup to have some offensive fireworks throughout. Let’s get into the plays…

Captain

Lamar Jackson | BAL – Jackson will be far and away the most popular captain on this slate. Heading into Vegas as -4 point road favorites, the Ravens are implied to put up 27 on the Raiders. If they do so, nearly 100% of their game plan will revolve around dynamic QB Lamar Jackson. He is the best play on the slate, and delivers the best possibility for a ceiling game against a Raider DST that ranked 26th against the pass and 28th vs the run in 2020.

Darren Waller | OAK – Waller currently has a 27% advantage score over Ravens safety Chuck Clark per PFF, and is drawing +110 odds to score with over/unders set at 6.5 receptions and 70 receiving yards. Even without a TD, that sets him up at a floor of about 14 DKP. Derek Carr is certainly most familiar with Waller than any other Raiders receiver, so I’d expect him to look Waller’s way often on Monday Night.

Mark Andrews | BAL – Andrews will be looking to impress just weeks after recently signing a $56m extension that will keep him with Baltimore for the next 4 years. With Marquise Brown and Sammy Watkins both getting nicked up during the preseason and not playing at 100%, this will open up ample opportunities for Andrews to dominate against the Raiders safeties who are both liabilities in coverage.

Derek Carr | OAK – The Ravens just lost Marcus Peters to a torn ACL who is now out for the season, which will certainly open things up for the Raiders receiving core. People forget that Carr was a pretty consistent fantasy QB last season, throwing 27 TDs and only 9 picks in 2020. Perhaps even more impressive, is that Carr notched 22+ DKP in 5 of his last 7 games last season. Outside of Darren Waller, I believe he offers the best chance at a Raider making the optimal lineup in the captain spot.

Also Consider: Marquise Brown

FLEX

Ty’Son Williams | BAL – Given the Ravens RB injury woes, 2020 UDFA and former South Carolina Gamecock Ty’Son Williams will make his first career start against the Raiders Sunday night. Given how poor the Raiders have been against the run (28th vs the rush) I think there’s hope for a scrub like Williams to score a TD and maybe rack up 60-70 yards on the ground to go with it. In showdown, I see that being valuable enough to warrant a FLEX play especially with Baltimore’s run-first mentality.

Bryan Edwards | OAK – Edwards has been an absolute stud by all accounts coming out of Raiders camp during the preseason. Another SC Gamecock, Edwards was taken in the 3rd round of the 2020 draft and brings physicality and size to the table, with the ability to manhandle smaller cornerbacks. If he can stay healthy this year, I expect him to become the Raiders #1 receiver before long.

Henry Ruggs III | OAK – The 2020 1st round pick and speedster out of Bama failed to make a lasting impression on Raiders fans last season, but with Marcus Peters now out tomorrow, Ruggs should see ample opportunities against Ravens depth coverage. He is cheap enough to reach for considering the gamebreaking upside he brings to the table.

Justin Tucker | BAL – Tucker has been one of the most consistent NFL kickers in recent memory, and with the Ravens lined up to potentially score 27 points here, Tucker should be able to join in on the fun.

Kenyan Drake | OAK – The former Arizona Cardinal has landed a new change of scenery in Las Vegas, working as the lightning to Josh Jacobs’ thunder in a shared backfield. WIth the Raiders likely to be trailing in this one, I think it makes plenty of sense to put stock in the Raiders back field as if in negative gamescript, which leads to more opportunities for guys like Kenyan Drake to catch short passes as Vegas tries to catch up. Definitely a more DraftKings friendly play due to Drake’s PPR upside.

Hunter Renfrow | OAK – The former Clemson Tiger and Raiders slot receiver is priced at an incredible value of $2,800 on DraftKings tonight. If I found out he’ll be drawing Marlon Humphrey in the slot, then I likely won’t use Renfrow much as Humphrey is a top 10 CB in the league currently, but I don’t question his ability against any other current Ravens CB at that price. Keep an eye out closer to lock as we determine WR/CB matchups.

Ravens DST – While the oddsmakers project this game to result on the high scoring side of things, the Ravens defense can never be counted out, especially in Showdown mode. Not to mention, we are talking about Derek Carr here after all …

Also Consider: Sammy Watkins, Daniel Carlson, Latavius Murray, Devin Duvernay
