  • Overall Record: 631-596-21
  • Season Record: 197-209-5

Georgetown vs Colorado, Under 137.5

  • Colorado has struggled to score buckets when away from home this season. Today they play bright and early in Hinkle Fieldhouse, with each team competing with sunlight while under the court’s east basket. I like the low in this game, especially with how well the Hoyas played defense during the Big East tournament
  • The Buffaloes have also cashed the under in 19 of 30 games played this season. They allow just 63 points per game and play at one of the slowest tempos in the country. It is a talent of Tad Boyle to draw out opponent possessions and force tough looks at the end of the shot clock

Louisiana State -2 vs St. Bonaventure

  • Geaux Tigers. I certainly was not overlooking the Bonnies when hyping up an LSU Final Four run this past week. This team plays excellent defense and was led by experienced players to the dance after winning the Atlantic-10. However, they do not have the offensive firepower to keep up with the Tigers
  • LSU averages 82 points per game. They rank top five in offensive efficiency and were a mere bucket away from being named SEC Champions. This squad is criminally under seeded, likely because the NCAA hates coach Will Wade. I expect them to put on a show here as they have against tough opponents all season

UC Santa Barbara +7.5 vs Creighton

  • The Gauchos have as much talent as a power conference squad and get a favorable draw against Creighton to start here. They rely far less on the three compared to the Blue Jays and I could see their shot selection being the deciding factor here in this matchup
  • Creighton was able to put up just 107 points in their previous two games combined. The Blue Jays have lost their offensive rhythm and I doubt shots start falling after a week’s hiatus. UC Santa Barbara lost just one game so far in 2021 and are extremely live for the upset here if they rebound and play smart

Iona +16.5 vs Alabama

  • Butler allowed opponents to shoot 35 percent from three this year, but away teams shot just 19.1 percent from beyond the arc in the last four games at Hinkle pre-tourney. Alabama plays there today and it concerns me that the three accounts for over 40 percent of their total points scored
  • Rick Pitino is going to have his team ready for this game. I am not sure if they can keep this competitive for a full twenty minutes but their press will cause problems for Alabama and if shots don’t fall, we could be in for quite the upset. It is also worth noting another 15-seed already has a victory this March, Oral Roberts yesterday

Connecticut -3 vs Maryland

  • Connecticut is a completely different team with high flying James Bouknight on the court. They were 11-3 this season in games where the sophomore guard was active and 4-4 in the contests he was unable to play. After a week of rest, he should be fully healed and ready to bring the Huskies on a Kemba-esque run
  • The best conference in basketball this season already accrued three tournament losses. The Big Ten may not be the powerhouse we once thought and Maryland finished their season in the bottom half of that table. They lack the offensive firepower of previous years and run a team on the court today that has lost three of their last four

Missouri +1 vs Oklahoma

  • Missouri has a winning record against Quadrant I opponent this season including non-conference victories against Oregon, Wichita State and Illinois. I really think the play of Xavier Pinson, Dru Smith and center Jeremiah Tilmon is enough to get them a win here in the first round
  • Oklahoma will be without De’Vion Harmon in this game due to a positive coronavirus test. He is the team’s second-leading scorer and accounts for an average of just under 13 points per game. It is hard to carve out a path to victory for the Sooners here today without Harmon on the court

UCLA vs Brigham Young, Over 139

  • These teams have both cashed the over in three of their previous four games. It may of been difficult for UCLA to hold up their share of 70 points without Johnny Juzang, but he is going to play tonight despite rolling his ankle late on Thursday in their game against Michigan State
  • BYU is extremely solid, having a top 30 ranking in terms of both offensive and defensive efficiency. Their frontcourt has caused opponents issues all season but as of late they are getting far better guard play as well. Alex Barcello has the hottest hand and he will certainly shine in this game competing with the Bruins’ group of shooters

Virginia Commonwealth vs Oregon, Over 137.5

  • Since their return to full strength the Ducks have rattled off seven consecutive overs. They shoot 38 percent from beyond the arc and have recently inserted themselves into the top 15 in terms of offensive efficiency. As good as VCU’s defense is, Dana Altman should find a way to get Oregon to at least 75 points here
  • VCU played at a faster tempo than any team in the Atlantic-10 this season. Their defense can cause a lot of turnovers and fast-break points which they tend to rely on. They do however have stud guard Nah’Shon Hyland who has gone over 30 points on multiple occasions this year

I am confident in every pick that I provide and play them myself. College basketball is unpredictable and that’s why we love it, so always bet smart!
